New Street Signs for Suttons Bay Tasting Rooms

New Street Signs for Suttons Bay Tasting Rooms

Did you have trouble finding our tasting rooms as drove up M22 last fall or winter?

If you haven’t visited us yet, do you want to know what to look for?

Look for our new signs.

In late spring, we installed colorful permanent building and road signs. It took us longer than expected to erect the signs because when we opened in October, the wine tasting season was in full swing. When temperatures cool and colors emerge on the trees in Autumn, people think, “WINE!” October stands as the busiest time of the year for the wine industry; it’s like a Christmas rush. So, we postponed designing our signs until winter.

Then Winter Hit…with a Vengeance

Street Banners at Three Fires Wine & Skipping Stone Cellars in Suttons Bay MIFaced with historical low temperatures, blinding white outs and record-breaking snowfall (over 22 feet!), we could not put up a sign until the massive amount of snow melted. Two simple white banners stood stoically between metal posts for duration of frozen season. They took a battering and ripped several times, but duct tape and zip ties held them together (poor things) until spring.

Lessons from Winter

The winter taught us a few things that helped us design signs so you could see them easily in all seasons. Snow drifts and snow piles reached six, eight and even ten or 12 feet high along M22 this winter. Our white banners blended in with the bright white snow making it difficult for you to see.

We built the signs as tall as the township would allow so you can see it over the snow piles. The Three Fires Wine sign is black, like our labels, while Skipping Stone Cellars a dark blue, darker than the walls in the tasting room. You will be able to spot them in snow or in any other seasons.

Tasting Room Location

Our tasting rooms are located just 15 minutes from Traverse City on the beautiful Leelanau Peninsula on M22 at Hilltop Road. Taste award-wining wines made from 100% Michigan grapes. Enjoy dry, vinifera wine at our Three Fires Wine tasting counter, or if you prefer wine with an element of sweetness, try our Skipping Stone Cellars wine and “Enjoy the Sweet Life!”
