Three Fires Wine Visits Cose di Lusso in Rochester, Michigan
Meet the Winemaker, Nathaniel Rose
Winemaker, Nathaniel Rose, will be representing Three Fires Wine at Cose di Lusso of Rochester, Michigan on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 for their “Terroir Tuesday: Michigan” event.
Cose di Lusso, a fine wine store in downtown Rochester, hosts educational events called “Terroir Tuesdays” on the first Tuesday of every month. The owners give their time to educate “wine novices to connoisseur,” and remove any intimidating factors associated with purchasing fine wine. One of the ways they accomplish this is to host “Terroir Tuesday” events.
Terroir, pronounced, “ter’wär,” refers to the natural environment in which particular grapes are grown, including factors such as the geography, geology, topography, and climate. According to Wikipedia, “Terroir can be very loosely translated as “a sense of place,” which is embodied in certain characteristic qualities the local environment has on the wine.” The belief is that the land itself imparts qualities unique to a specific growing location and these qualities are evident in the wine grown in a particular region.
Cose di Lusso often features Terroir from around the world, so it is very special that Michigan gets the spotlight for April. Until recently, Cose di Lusso was reticent about supporting the Michigan wine industry. Many Michigan wines are over priced or lack the quality they expect of a fine wine. That has changed with the introduction of Three Fires Wine of Suttons Bay and Brengman Brothers of Traverse City.
Three Fires Wine opened its tasting room in Suttons Bay, Michigan in October 2013 offering three white and four red wines made from classic European vinifera varietals such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. All wines are dry and masterfully crafted in the French style to be complex, balanced and go well with fine food. Three Fires Wine uses only 100% Michigan grapes carefully selected from premier viticulture regions across Michigan and specializes in producing fine red wine.
Nathaniel Rose, 29, makes wine for Three Fires Wine and Brengman Brothers, both on the Leelanau Peninsula. Rose grew up in Leelanau County where the wine industry is exploding. His passion for fine wine was born among the vineyards and wineries on the hillsides overlooking Lake Michigan and the Grand Traverse Bay. Rose has a degree in biochemistry, an asset when making wine. In his mind, it’s not only that he enjoys the science of making wine, but also loves the artistry that’s required to craft a spectacular wine.
The cost to attend a Terroir Tuesday is $15, which is then donated to a local charity. Call or email Cose di Lusso to reserve your spot at 248.656.WINE (9463) or firstname.lastname@example.org.
